Read this knowing who benefits. PA Registered Agent.org competes directly with LegalZoom for Pennsylvania business, charges $99 a year for it, and would be pleased to have yours. The pricing quoted below is LegalZoom's own, captured from their published materials in July 2026, and no characterization of their service quality appears anywhere on this page because we have no basis for one.

Recognition Is Worth Something

Ask an owner to name a company that handles business filings and LegalZoom is usually the answer. That is an asset assembled over two decades of advertising, and it buys a customer real things: a vendor you can hand a credit card to without running a background check, a support line that is actually staffed, and a catalog broad enough to cover most of what a small company files. Anyone who prefers one recognizable supplier to a cheaper unfamiliar one is making a coherent choice. This page will not tell them they are wrong; it will tell them exactly what the Pennsylvania portion of that purchase consists of.

In Pennsylvania, What You Are Buying Has a Different Name

Pennsylvania never wrote a registered agent into its LLC statute. It wrote a registered office, an address in the Commonwealth that the company keeps on the record without a lapse. 15 Pa.C.S. § 109 then allows a business to contract with a Commercial Registered Office Provider and name that provider on its filings in lieu of stating any address of its own. Every vendor competing for this work in Pennsylvania, LegalZoom and ourselves included, is a CROP.

Two consequences follow, and the first one costs LegalZoom a sale. If your company holds a Pennsylvania street address that you are content to see in the public entity database, you may list it and hire nobody. Not a discount, not a workaround. The statute simply never demanded a third party. The second consequence is that the CROP function does not vary by vendor. The Commonwealth wants an address in state, expressed as a street or a rural route, attended during working hours so that process can be handed to somebody. A bare PO box is refused. Nothing further is required. A $249 provider satisfies that description and so does a $90 one.

$249, Auto-Renewing, With No Opening Discount

That is the figure LegalZoom publishes for standalone agent service, and our July 2026 pass turned up no promotional first year attached to it. It renews automatically. Neither fact is hidden and neither is unusual for the segment. The comparison worth making is not against our marketing but against the statutory description above: $249 a year purchases a name on an address line, which is the same thing $99 purchases, because Pennsylvania wrote only one version of the requirement.

A hundred and fifty dollars a year separates the columns. Over a decade of ordinary operation that is fifteen hundred dollars spent on the difference between two names attached to the same statutory role.

1. Line up the replacement first. Whether that is a new provider or your own Pennsylvania street address, it has to exist before you touch paperwork.
2. Prepare the change statement. The document is titled Statement of Change of Registered Office, and its number strings four chapter sections together because a single form serves business corporations, nonprofits, limited partnerships, and LLCs alike. The section that applies to your LLC is the last of the four.
3. Enter the incoming office in the same document that removes the outgoing one. This is the part owners get wrong. The Commonwealth demands an office held without interruption, which is why the form offers no mode that simply deletes LegalZoom. Removal and replacement are one act, recorded together, and that is why a properly filed change cannot open a gap.
4. Send it to the Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations with $5, on paper or through Business Filing Services online.
5. Confirm the record updated, then cancel LegalZoom. Their auto-renewal is the reason to check the state record first and the billing second; until the Department processes the statement, they are still the office on file.
